DESCRIPTION: Length A somewhat small and unobtrusive fly best recognised by the pale brown and black banded abdomen, grey and black striped bristly thorax, large chestnut coloured eyes and pale antennae. Latero-ventral black spots on the underside of the scutellum are present. BEHAVIOUR: Adults may be found by sweep-netting herbage. DISTRIBUTION: Mainly found in southern Britain with widespread records. Becoming more localised towards the north. HABITAT: Hedgerows, woodlands and nearby shrubs. PERIOD: April to October. |
